    Operation LOTS More

This is a heads up to members of the LOTS fan community who are currently managing save-the-seeker initiatives including the videos, conventions, advertisements, etc.

I've just launched a new Website called Xenite.Org Publicity that will serve as the hub for a series of science fiction and fantasy promotional campaigns. I've just completed the first campaign for Tolkien Moot, which will be held in Spokane, WA this weekend.

My next project will be Operation LOTS More, which will promote the efforts (and hopefully help raise the visibility) of the various fans and fan groups working to bring back Legend of the Seeker. I'll start working on this project next week.

The project will include the publication of press releases and distribution of articles to various blogs. I'll be Tweeting URLs from the xenite_org and sf_fandom accounts, asking for retweets. The project will document the new initiatives coming out of LOTS fandom to revive Legend of the Seeker.

    That includes:
    • Legend of the Seeker fan video projects
    • Legend of the Seeker fan convention parties, podcasts, and promotions
    • Legend of the Seeker fan advertisements (such as the upcoming Hollywood Reporter ad)
    • Legend of the Seeker promotional campaigns such as the College Campus Campaign

So what does all this mean? It means I am drafting you all, against your wills, without asking you, into Operation LOTS More. It was the best name I could come up with.

I'm not superseding anything or anyone. If you were going to do a press release, do it. If you were going to give a news interview, give it. If you were going to write a blog post, do a podcast, whatever -- do it.

I just want people to be aware that Xenite Publicity will be talking up the latest fannish efforts under the collective name of Operation LOTS More. If anyone asks you what it is, you can refer them to this thread.

If you want to make a contribution to Operation LOTS More, your help is more than welcome. Here are a few ways you can contribute:

    • Mention any special, media-attention worthy fan activity here (even if it's just a car wash to raise money for Save Our Seeker)
    • Post links here to any news articles that mention Operation LOTS More
    • Blog about Operation LOTS More on your Websites
    • Create posters and/or flyers about Operation LOTS More and share them
    • Discuss Operation LOTS More on other forums where people express interest in Legend of the Seeker
    • Contribute fan art supporting Operation LOTS More by posting it here (I doubt I'll have time to create a good logo so if anyone wants to provide one, I'll be glad to include it in all announcements)
    • Tweet and/or Retweet any Operation LOTS More announcements

About Xenite Publicity: I need to expand the services I provide as a consultant and Xenite Publicity will help me develop some methods and resources to that end. Xenite Publicity will (for the time being) focus on pro bono promotional campaigns on behalf of science fiction and fantasy groups (whom I select). I am NOT soliciting clients or selling my services.

In Internet marketing, doing pro bono work is a good way of building a portfolio you can show to prospective clients. At some point in the future I may sell my services and use the pro bono portfolio to demonstrate what I can do.

I will NOT be taking credit for all the fan efforts. I will NOT be claiming any ownership or leadership over fan initiatives to save the show. I'm just putting together a campaign to augment and document all the other campaigns (or many of them). This is not an attempt at calling the shots for what to do next.

So I hope you'll join me in spreading the word about the newest efforts to Save The Seeker. And in case anyone is curious, the SaveTheSeeker blog will remain what it always has been: a fan resource about the efforts to save the Seeker. I'll mention Operation LOTS More there but I think this forum will serve as a better hub for organizing the campaign.

Michael: This sounds great! Thanks for doing it (even though I know you have professional reasons for it as well). Any way we can spread the word is a serious bonus!

I think this is a great idea. I know with the LOTSvideo efforts, we can put stuff together but we're hitting a brick wall when it comes to trying to get things out to the greater sci-fi community and the general public at large. So this is helpful! Thanks for putting it together and LOTSvideo will be happy to contribute in any way we can!

    Hey Michael,

This is great! We can really use more publicity.

However, I just would like us to be careful about "branding" everything "Operations LOTS More". If we qualify "Operations LOTS More" as a publicity campaign, let's make sure we "brand" publicity activities as "Operations LOTS More", and not everything else, or we'll just confuse everyone. In some cases, it will make sense to continue to use "Save Our Seeker".

    My 2 "marketing/branding" cents

Thank you so much for all the hard work you have already done to help LOTS. This is a wonderful idea. Do you need articles? If so what kind?

This Sat several Rallies will be held to help promote the show. I will at one. Should we post when and where? I know there is a website for the rallies.

Laura, I definitely will do everything possible to make sure that people do not confuse Operation LOTS More (the publicity campaign) with specific Seeker fan activities. "Save Our Seeker" is a great initiative and it would be detrimental to our collective hopes for anything to detract from the brand value of the SOS campaign. That will be true for other fan activities as well.

I won't be able to start work on the new campaign until after the weekend. At some point articles will be helpful. Right now, I just need to make sure people know what is going to happen because we DON'T want any confusion over the signals we're sending out.

Do you want links to videos we've made? Not talking like the official LotSvideo vids but like the ones I created for my SOS songs. Do you want links to those?

Post any links you think will help. If I can write some news-style copy about them I'll include them in press releases and/or articles distributed on other sites. I won't cover everything in any one article or press release. There is way too much going on to do that.

So, I'm back from vacation (more-or-less). I'll get started on Operation LOTS More in the next day or two.

I am publishing some press releases this week. The first one is already live. I think one or two have gone into limbo and I may have to resubmit them again next week. A couple of the PR services were acting flaky.

Thanks, everyone. It looks like I'm going to have to make some changes in my press release plan. I was hoping to be more productive but something came up in personal life and yadda-yadda-yadda.

Anyway, there will be more -- LOTS more -- in the coming weeks.
