I just started watching it about 2 weeks ago, and sure enough it hooked me from the first scene. It's classic good verses evil and I love that, even if some people say its formulaic, frankly everything now a days is formulaic and that is okay as long as it is done right.

And this how is more than done right. I love the magic, that is what really hooked me. They actually use magic and tons of it. I love that. I really like Zed as a classic mentor and magic user. I love kahlan as she seems to be the most intriguing character to date and has a really rich character base. Richard is just a classic unsuspecting hero, and frankly there is nothing more appealing to me in story telling than that. I don't need my heroes to die in some "Jesus" like "save the world with my death" plot. No offense meant there I was just making an analogy.

I like my heroes to live and have argued with a few naysayers that that is the reason that stories like LOTS are so popular. And this series' heroes are second to none. This story has everything a Fantasy junkie could ever want.

I hope it lasts another 20 years.
That's exactly how I feel...............I adore this show!

Seriously I am glad I found this site. It's really nice to find a group of like minded individuals. I am not saying I just want a bunch of zombies, but when people agree with your core POV you can talk about aspects of a series that you find important and just plain cool, with out having people rip on it.

So thanks, and I look forward to being part of these boards for a longtime to come.

I was looking forward to LOTS because I watched Xena and wanted to see what Tappert and Raimi would do. I came in on part two of the pilot, when Richard and Kahlen were whacking D'harans and thought it was pretty violent, but kept watching and it's a weekly event. I'm also glad to see a lot of old Xena cast show up, and I think if you start watching LOTS, Puppeteer and Listener are good starter episodes, as they show all the characters and have good interaction and demonstrate Richard and Kahlen's humanity.

My sis knew about the books and started watching LOTS episode in our living room.. and she'd bug me and say "you gotta see this one you'll like it for sure" and I'd be like "Nah i cant be bothered" then go back to facebook or whatever it is that I'd rather do.. One night came home after having some drinks and there she was again watching re runs and i lay on the couch hoping to just doze off and before I knew it I was sitting up and couldn't take my eyes off.. the rest is history.

Needless to say the next day i watched the same episode just to check if it wasn't because of the alcohol. then watched it from the starting episode.

it was Dennas episode. Also I'd seen Jessica in a sitcom series here in Australia before so she looked familiar. Not bad in the eyes too in that leather

I was looking on the Xena fanclub site one day, and there was an announcement about Rob Tapert's new show "Legend Of The Seeker". I hadn't read the books, so I didn't really know what it was all about. I watched the first episode, thought it was very good, but promptly forgot about it. I don't know how the conversation came up, but I mentioned the show to one of my colleagues at work (RIP Borders Books UK), and she got really excited and told me that the Sword Of Truth books were her favourite and that I should read them. I'm not a very good reader, and fantasy books were very difficult for me to read. I got through the first couple of chapters of Wizard's First Rule, but again promptly forgot about it.
Fast forward a couple of months, and I read about the second season of LOTS. I kept thinking that I really should watch the rest of season one. So, I sat down watched all of season one, fell utterly in love with the show, went back to the books, and read them all in two months. I am so glad that my work colleague kept on at me to read the books. It's interesting for me, as I am now going back through the books, and can see little pieces that they have put into the show. I can also tell my friends who have just started watching the series, the backstory to certain situations and characters featured.
"The intelligence, the nobility, the life in those green eyes was riveting."

The very opening scene when Kahlan and her sister where escaping on horseback got me instantly interested. Episode 8 when Denna made her debut with the Mord Sith and proceeded to blow me away got me hooked. Finally in the last episode season one when Cara first appeared that sealed the deal and I was a fan forever and a Cara follower.

If you were a true Mord Sith you would follow Richard.

Hmm. Well, a friend recommended and let me borrow the first book a while back. Shortly after I'd finished reading it, the show started. I caught the first two episodes at the time... and... well... kinda gave up on it (as a few too many plot-vital secrets were spoilered within the space of two episodes). Later I came back to the show and decided to give it more of a chance. Watched a bit more and gradually fell in love with it. Kahlan being badass and the 'Denna' episode is what sealed my love of the series in the end.

well the over all genre was what got me to it. but what got me hooked was just the show as a whole. the characters are awesome, the actors/actresses, the scenery, the plot. just everything was amazing.
    long live the seeker

I am a huge fan of the books and had read through the entire series twice, when I stumbled across the show quite by accident. I was channel-surfing one Saturday afternoon and stopped when I came to an interesting-looking scene with this sword-carrying guy named Richard. My "Seeker antenna" immediately went up, but I wasn't totally sure until a couple of scenes later when I saw this gorgeous woman walking in the woods in a long white dress. I don't know what I shouted out at that point, but both kids came running!
Imagine my surprise after checking the episode name (Resurrection) and IMDB to find out it was halfway through the second season. It clearly wasn't advertised very well at all if a SOT fan like myself had no clue the show existed.
I immediately set up my PVR to tape the next episodes. With each episode, I fell more in love with the characters, great ensemble cast with obvious chemistry, gorgeous scenery, well-designed costumes, amazing fight choreography, and yes - Richard's abs.
I've since read the full series again and found that I enjoyed it even more, since the show helped me picture some things I couldn't before - like just how do you fight in a long dress??? I am definitely in the camp of those who love both the show and the books. The only thing I really struggle with is that Darken is his brother in one, and his father in the other - not sure why they did that.
