    Episode 2.09 - Dark

Just finished the episode. I personally thought it to be an awesome episode. I thought that Nicci was pronounced differently, but I may have been wrong. I imagined that when Sister Ulicia said you must take another sister's life, I presumed Nicci would kill her. I also enjoyed the new seeker and how he made Cara laugh. I like her laugh. Leo was rather handsome and I hope that he stays around if Cara does fall in love with him. Did the sword's rage make him kill the lady who tried to kill him? No one really talked about that. He seemed really nice. But when they where in the People's Palace and looked at the prophecies, since Zedd named a new seeker does that mean that Leo will be the one to provide the stone of tears to the keeper? Interesting epsiode.

    Good
    - The conversation between Kahlan and Cara where they were talking about how remorse, love and forgiveness makes someone weak. That pride, fear, and anger makes someone powerful.
-Leo made Cara laugh about taming chipmunks.
-Richard and his detective skills in pointing out Sister Nicci as a Sister of the Dark.
    - Revealing the new prophecy that involves Kahlan is interesting.

    Bad
-According to the prophecy, Leo can help The Keeper win.
    -Richard lost his wizard powers.

I believe the Sister of the Dark killed herself (to avoid capture?) by pulling Leo's hand holding the Sword of Truth into her throat. Did anyone else think Leo was sorta cocky?

I enjoyed the episode overall. I'm a bit confused how the blacksmith was all of a suddon a master swordsman. Is it one of the powers of the Sword of Truth to give the user crazy awesome skills?

Kahlan really needs her other dagger back, I felt bad for her in that fight scene.

I love Legend of the Seeker, but "Dark" was by far the worst episode of the entire series thus far. I am not looking forward to "Perdition" next week, because it just seems like a continuation of the "Dark" episode. I'm not going to get into specifics, because I don't want to give spoilers on the episode.

Hopefully, the show will pick up where "Light" left off (an episode I absolutely adored), and scrap the whole "Dark" episode as if it never happened.

One of the Magics of the Sword of Truth is to give strength and experience to the new seeker. Leo got his swordman skills from the sword. I agree that Kahlan really needs her other dagger back. Or she should stay away from throwing her dagger in the middle of a fight.

From what I understand I can be wrong he still has part of his power. She only took a little bit. There is no way the prelate is as strong as Richard. So I think he still has a good majority of it. If not he'll get it back.

Cara smiling and giggling, that was awesome. That alone makes the episode gooooooooood.

I agree with all of this. Though Cara laughing was nice- a change at the very least :]
I'm not a huge Cara fan myself, i like Kahlan better, but these past few episodes have really changed her for the better I think.
    ALSO
sweet when Cara got a little bit of her hair chopped off saving Leo from the crazy sister.
talk about a close call :]
and now that Cara is into Leo, I may not want him out of the picture so soon. It'll be interesting to see how this works out...
I thought it was an ok episode, a bit predictable for leading into the nest ep though. I'm pretty sure I have it worked out.

Yeah. The Sister of the Dark killed herself .. Leo didn't do it. The scene happened really fast, I was confused a bit myself.

And the episode was alright. Cara was very funny in this episode. Its cute how she was playing hard-to-get with Leo.

And the scene where Kahlan was missing Richard was touching. It was definitely an 'awwww' moment.

OOHH! And the last part of the episode where they mention Kahlan came out of nowhere!! Made me nervous and added extra suspense. Nice one writers. Good choice.

Ohhhhh! I'm so excited!!!! That was a great episode. I love the way this is going like the books, and I can't believe they talked about the chipmunks! That was so funny! I thought the beginning where Kahlan was missing Richard was so sad, but she looked so happy when she found out that Richard was on his way back.

Cara and Leo, sitting in a tree.... She likes him, and she actually laughed! I love Cara.

And one last thing: I can't believe Nicci took Richard's powers, I want him to become a wizard! I'm sure they'll get her. I wish I didn't have to wait!

I thought this was a really good episode, except it left me very confused about Richard's powers. The way I understood it, he was giving up all his powers, that way he could leave the palace and not have the headaches kill him. So WTH???? How is he going to survive without his powers? I didn't see them leave any foreshadowing as to how he can get them back - hopefully that will happen in the next episode, since it appears Sister Nicci will be on the scene, and Zedd will be around to teach Richard so that he can take his magic back and still survive.
    Spoiler: Book spoiler
In the books, training by another wizard will do the trick, although they haven't really made that apparent in the show.

Anyway, all in all, I thought it was very suspenseful, I thought it was very cool how Richard figured out Nicci was a Sister of the Dark. But then stupid to knowingly give all his power to her. Maybe he could have given it to Verna instead? Oops, there I go again, am I the only one really upset about this? Probably some of you who follow the spoilers are way ahead on this, but I like the suspense, no spoilers for me. I'll just have to be upset until this is all set straight!

If Cara likes Leo, I hope he sticks around in some capacity (definitely NOT as the Seeker!), but I got the impression that he's only going to be on the show for a couple of episodes. And I agree, the Sister of the Dark caused her own death so that she would not be confessed by Kahlan.

As for Kahlan, I really like the new prophecy. It's about time Shota and the Prelate get over their prophecy nonsense. Richard will have the last laugh about pre-destination. As well he should... It will be interesting to see what that means in terms of the storyline around Kahlan.

I haven't read the books, but I have been eagerly awaiting for Richard to get his groove on with magic. Please don't ruin this

I really hope they don't nerf Richard's abilities. I know he's supposed to be a war wizard, but it looks like he just gave away his freaking powers

Although, reading through some random information, it seems he can essentially summon Han he needs at will for specific events, so maybe he gave her a little of his han, but from the effects and the drama it looks like he gave her a lot

I've seen too many shows get ruined when they run away from the HEROES having the powers that they are supposed to have and nerfing them to prolong or stretch stories. I hope this doesn't happen with this show

I liked the episode, but seeing Richard being an idiot (he's supposed to be getting more mature, not wah wah, you took me from the people I love) and throwing away a huge gift/power just to go back was very annoying

    Here's hoping for a fix in episode 10 :P

Overall, it's a great episode. I still like Resurrection and Light more, but we can clearly see that they're sort of "stepping on the pedal". The season is building up.

What I liked about the episode:
    - Cara and Kahlan talking about emotions and all that stuff. They're well on their way to having that friendship that they have in the books
    - Richard using his brains. We see a bit of Richard's 'book side' here when he tricked Sister Nicci and the Prelate at the end. That was a good one. Sure, he gave his powers up, but I don't think he had another choice at the time. I'm sure he's going to get it back. That's how all these stories go.
    - Cara laughing and smiling. Very, very, very cute.*sigh* And then Kahlan teased her. LOL! Can anyone not love these women???
    - What I liked best about this episode is the way it's building up for the next one. There's clearly an ellipsis there at the end. I can't wait for Perdition. So many questions are cropping up from this episode, it's like the stepping stone to the second half (the more exciting half) of the season.

The prophecies are also quite interesting. Here's what I think the prophecies will mean (I'm just looking at this from the TV show's perspective, and not the books -- we all know those prophecies weren't in the books).

The prophecy about the "descendant of two powerful bloodlines must fight a powerful new force after the Keeper is defeated".
-- if you've read the books, this is pretty obvious and straightforward. I won't say more.

These two prophecies are obviously connected:
"In the time of the tearing of the veil, should the son of Brennidon seek the sacred stone, he will find it only to deliver it to the enemy of the light."
"As long as the Mother Confessor's pure heart beats, the Keeper is doomed to fail".
-- I think Richard will somehow get "seduced to the dark side" (Star Wars!), and I think the reason for this is because of the 'dark side' in Richard that Zedd was talking about in 'Fury'. And then, in a twist of fantastic proportions (LOL), Kahlan will be able to bring him back to the side of good. Okay, it's quite predictable if it happens this way, but I can't think of anything else that makes sense. And I have to say, even though twists like these happen a lot in movies/TV shows/books, they never get old for me.
-- There are obviously other interpretations, especially with the way the prophecies were worded. "Enemy of the light" could mean something else, it doesn't have to be the Keeper. "Light" doesn't even have to mean the side of good, and if you've read the Chainfire trilogy, you'll know what I mean.
-- I'm also wondering whether 'pure heart' means something or it's just put there to make it sound more poetic (and prophetic). Of course, we all know Kahlan's heart is pure, but there is that episode where she gets split in two. Hmm.. I think I'm reading too much into this particular phrase.

I could talk at great length about the deviations from the book, but I think it's best if we all just ignore that. The TV show is different from the books. It's not a direct adaptation. We have to accept it.

All in all a great episode. Like I said, it's sort of an introduction to the next half of the season.

I don't think Leo will be the one to hand the stone to the Keeper. The prophecy talked about the 'son of Brennidon', not the 'Seeker'. I have a feeling that Leo's going to die. His death would provide another opportunity for emotional growth for Cara. heh...

I am super excited about the new prophecy. I'm looking forward to seeing how it's played out, especially with the distinction of the mother confessor's "pure" heart. Kahlan is now going to have to put some importance on her own life and not be so ready to die for Richard.

It was an alright episode but I could not help but feel disappointed. Richard in the Palace of the Prophets is one of my favorite parts of the books, but we got such a dumbed down version here. After riveting episodes such as "baneling", how can they give us this simpleton plot (Nicci's whole "scheme") that seemed to be written for Hercules or Xena? Why not give other training wizards (hi Jebediah) any sort of speaking role? And the part with the prophecies on the stone tablets I actually really liked, but it also means they're skipping Nathan, one of my favorite characters in the books.

About the new seeker, Leo, I thought we was decent (except for his weird cross-eyed stare when we first meet him). So Richard has given up all his magical powers and he is on his way to fullfill the prophecy to help the Keeper. Yet, another prophecy has arrived that while Kahlan is alive, the Keeper can't win. It deviates from the books obviously but I think this is pretty cool, so here is to hoping they will keep this interesting and don't give it some kind of simplistic resolution.

(btw just a thought I just had, but this last episode seemed to written more for the female viewership?)

Not sure I like Cara getting all happy. She's a Mord-Sith and part of her edge is her harshness. I guess I just want her story to play out from the books, as I think she gets a better partner in the series...

So far I've only watched the episode once. Sometimes my opinion tends to change once I've watch the episode a second time. However, in general I thought this episode was good but not great. It might be because the last couple of episodes were excellent and this one didn't feel quite as good. As a non-book reader I hope they come back to the Sisters of the Light and the palace at some point because that does seem like it could bring in some nice story elements.

I agree with what several people have said in that while the Leo/Cara scenes were fun they did seem a little out of character for her. However, Leo has only been around for one episode so I think I need more time to see how that plays out before I decide if it's a good thing or a bad thing.
