    Episode 2.05 - Wizard

    Some comments on the show.
So I was cracking up that young Zedd single handedly created runaway inflation in Winterhaven.

    Seriously though....

I love when Cara knock Shota down and Richard and Kahlan had that look on their faces like they were shocked that Cara could be violent.

My main problem though is that Dargo shouldn't have been able to come back since he was killed with fire. Unless they have to be completely burned. But the D'hara's last week didn't have to be.

Loved, Loved, Loved! Cara bustin' Shota when Shota asked her to help Zedd name a new Seeker. THAT was a great scene! If Richard and Kahlan were surprised, I think it was certainly with relief! Somebody's got to keep Shota under control - I bet it'll be awhile before Shota tries anything like that again. And now Cara has proven her stripes for sure...

Fun episode... A meddling Shota (pay attention, Shota, that plan didn't work too well), a silly young King Zedd, a persuasive Darken Rahl - loved the "you've always been a Practical girl... " line, nothing too deep there, but still entertaining.

Anyway, Cara rocks! Now who's the most powerful of them all? :-)

I don't know how I feel about this episode. I will have to watch it again. My brain must have been in nowhereland. Only remember stuff I didn't like about it which is unusual for me... and the first time it happens too...

Very good episode! Held my attention until the end. There was humor along with the drama. Richard used wisdom in allowing Shota to live for future use of her magic to help them.

The actor who played Zedd as a youngster was convincing. It was kinda sad to see his lover allow Darken to use her, but it was great seeing Darken again. (sigh).

Cara once again did a great job being Cara! Who played the old Richard? It looked and sounded just like him. And I thought it a little wierd when the old Zedd went after that young girl...it looked wrong. But I felt sorry for him when that girl said he reminded her of her grandfather.

There are some things to complain about.. like I said about Dargo and being burned.

The other 'inconsistency' from the show vs the books is Cara stopping Zedd's magic against her. I seem to recalled that it is only because they can capture the other person's magic. In one of the books, I think Temple of the Winds, Cara explains to Kahlan that as part of her training Darken Rahl gave her that ability in a ritual of some part. It isn't natural to her or any Mord-Sith. Anywho, not using magic against Cara is a smart tactic and not because Cara has magic. However, Cara couldn't have used that ability against Zedd since it would require Zedd killing Cara to undo it.... So I figured that was a wash.

Darken Rahl uses a night light. Not because Darken Rahl is afraid of the dark, but the dark is afraid of Darken Rahl.

    loved it!! =]

i loved the way shota was asking cara for help, but then she turned her down and richard and kahlan was like 'omg!' lol!! [=
and at the start when richard and kahlan got blasted at the same time .. lol

and it was embarrising for me when richard got turned into an old man .. kahlan was soo happy that he looked young again! lol

and when richard came but he was in danger so kahlan screamed richard .. then loads of people shouted .. the confessor is coming! lol ... that was funny ... aha

i liked it ... but when zedd and richard were trapped in the underworld ... and darken started to close it ... and kahlan was sat at the top ... i thought the love between richard and kahlan would of stopped it from closing kahlan looked quite embarresed to be in love with an old man .. but when he was turned back .. God was she happy! lol
she was like ... in any other episodes i am not even going to nearly-have-sex-with-him!
lol! XD loved it.....except i was really starting to hate Zedd!! but he regained my love at the end!! Cara was awesome in it ^^

and yeah Darken Rahl was in it...quite a lot actually =]
okay .. i am really starting to stop watching it now lol
You are a girl and she is a woman. You are a pretty candle and Kahlan is the sunrise.

I loved this episode, good magic (something else then just wizard fire) and good action.

But the best off all, i saw small part of the Richards Cypher i know from the books, first trying to confront zedd with using his brain not his sword. I hope this will come more in the future.

Was wondering one thing tho, when Shota and Zedd removed the sword of truth out of Richard hand why not take one of the swords of the enemy?

As far as I know, I thought that it was only once they were banelings and burned they couldn't come back.

    Anyways, great episode!
They really picked a good guy for young Zedd. It wasn't too hard to believe that that's what he looked like when he was young.
And Cara...I'm starting to love her more and more. At first I didn't like her as much as I did in the books, (granted I've only seen a small part of her character, only up to book three), but since the last episode she's really grown on me.
    She's a kick-a** Mord-Sith.

Well Darken Rahl must have failed his probationary period as the Keeper of the Gates - poor effort DR, Keeper a bit miffed ?!

Enjoyed the episode, much fun - let's get back to the nitty gritty now.

I enjoyed this weeks offering. Very fun episode and excellent all round.

I agree with JR, need a bit more seriousness, or maybe a large story arc , but i'm sure it's coming
Do, or do not. There is no try

I thought they were burning them so they wouldn't have bodies to come back to.

And, I agree.. Cara is great.

[QUOTE=johnnyringo;19316]Well Darken Rahl must have failed his probationary period as the Keeper of the Gates - poor effort DR, Keeper a bit miffed ?!/QUOTE]

I expected a big fight between DR and Zedd/Richard. Why did DR bother to tell them that he was the keeper of the gates since it didn't seem to have any consequence? They just walked out of the rift. Or did I miss something?

Aside from being the messenger for the Keeper, it doesn't seem to me that DR has any powers in the underworld. All he does is intimidate people into accepting the Keeper's offer. Craig Parker is bound to get bored with his part if they don't give him something else to do (and me with his character whom I've always liked).

Cara is always entertaining to watch! I am glad that she is part of the "gang".

Young Zedd did annoy me though (in a good way). Like Shota said, he has lost all humility. LOL I didn't think that a wizard (even of the first order) could create a castle out of thin air. That's a bit farfetched for me. But what do I know of magic, hey?

I didn't catch why Zedd and Richard aged when entering the underworld. Anybody can clarify this for me?

Wasn't such a fan of this one. It was fun, but didn't seem to fit in with the last episodes this season. I hope they didn't make a serious goof in making Zedd so powerful this episode. Would be no fun for Zedd's magic always being available to play deus ex machina in the future. If he is that powerful it might make some of their more mundane efforts seem kind of pointless.

Cara was awesome in this episode. Loved seeing Shota get agielified.

I generally like the show. I have a few beefs about the plot lines but that will keep for other threads.
As far as Zedd being so powerful in this episode as a youngster as opposed to when older.
Wizard's Fire is supposed to erase all history of the object of the wizards fire. Even going back to the beginning of the family tree. Maybe that is why Zedd is less likely to use it as he is older and wiser than when he was younger and more foolish.

I didn't get this either. I thought maybe when Zedd entered, it broke part of Shota's spell on him since the Underworld is magical too in a way, but don't understand why it would have aged Richard. Any ideas?

And Darken Rahl still fails at everything he tries to do. *shakes head* Maybe try to close the gates a bit faster next time?

Overall it was a decent episode, I didn't think it was great. It basically told Richard, Kahlan and Cara that it's prophesized that Richard will fail in his quest to destroy the Keeper, surrounded by a lot of other things that may or may not have importance as the season goes on.

I did get a kick out of young Zedd constantly adding new titles to his name (Seeker of Truth, Master and Ruler of Winterhaven, etc. etc.) I kept thinking how is he going to fit all that on his business card? LOL

I still enjoyed the episode, but thought it was rather cheesy. Weakest of the season IMO. It was cool to see so much magic, but it was very Disney-ish in the way it was done, with all the sparkles and harp sounds transforming things and what not. The issue with Drago being burned and still coming back as a baneling bothered me too. The whole Zedd-and-Richard-go-to-the-Underworld thing was just terrible, especially at the end when they were trying to escape and Darken Rahl says he has power over the gates and goes to close it, and then they just walk out like nothing. Wth?

Anyway, on the the positive stuff. Cara was awesome in this episode; she just keeps getting better. Richard was also very good for the most part. I like seeing him taking charge and using his head much more like he does in the books. I'm also liking that even though they are deviating from the main plot and doing all of these little side-missions (as would be expected with the show), they still touch the big story arc each time and move it forward, at least a little, instead of completely abandoning it for multiple episodes at a time like they did last season.
